The Need to Breed

What do you think about Singapore encouraging its citizens to make babies?

I cannot help but smirk at the idea of a government encouraging sex.
Its still unclear whether the Mentos ad encouraging sex was government funded or not, either way very funny.

Singapore’s population is aging and birth rates seem to be declining. I was surprised to read this. I thought most places had a problem with population overgrowth.
Instead of encouraging their citizens to add more people to this world, maybe they should encourage people in overpopulated areas to move to Singapore.
Much like the government funded incentive, offering $18,000 to parents for the fifth child they conceive. Perhaps a monetary incentive could
be offered to some of the breeders elsewhere.
Maybe they need to lure people in that love to “breed.”
Throw some of those into the mix and “wallah” babies in Singapore.
Which is after all their objective.
I wonder what would happen if they encouraged porn.
After all porn is illegal in Singapore. Possession of pornography is illegal there.
I cannot even fathom a place where the citizens are encouraged to have sex and make babies but aren’t legally allowed to view sex.
Kind of backwards.
Maybe that’s the problem Singapore.
LEGALIZE PORN… maybe then your citizens would start making babies for you.
Just an idea.

creepy advertisement (patriotic sex? that’s just disgusting)but seriously, when are governments ever rational? Like any other possible human actions; eating, working, studying, and fucking for example, people will choose to act in whatever way they perceive to be in their best interest. So I’m thinking that there must be a reason, a reason way beyond the criminalization of porn, why people value childless sex (or no sex at all) higher than sex for procreation and I’m betting that there’s some sort of irrational government regulation behind it.

    • Aurora

      @ Aaron,
I can easily see why people might value childless sex… all the fun with none of the commitment!
However why the government is encouraging them to have children… well thats another story all together…

Most parts of the “developed” world are experiencing a “time bomb” when it comes to births – Japan and South Korea lead in the Pacific basin when it comes to declining birth rates and it isn’t coincidental that both countries are the most advanced and modern in the region. Japan will go from a population currently at 127 to 90 million by the year 2050 according to most estimates. Companies such as Honda are heavily invested in robotics to serve as caregivers and/or family members who won’t exist owing to the fall in the birth rate.

Western Europe also is in the throes of this predicament – Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, etc. The U.S. population remains steady owing to immigration and the Mexican-American segment continuing to have 3 or more offspring per family unit. In fact, college educated African-American females and Jewish-American women have the lowest birth rates in the country. Maintenance requires 2.1 offspring per family – most “developed nations” are perilously at 1.5 or less.

Even China w/ its vast population is experiencing a median age increase which derives from a declining birth rate – growing prosperity and the one child policy are the major culprits here and why the Chinese government is quietly encouraging families to have 2 children w/o penalty.

Singapore’s attempt at providing fiscal incentives to have children likely will prove futile – Scandinavian countries such as Sweden have tried this in the recent past to no avail: a short uptick in births is evidenced, but the birth rate quickly resumes a downward spiral following that phenomenon.

The declining birth rate sits in parallel w/ the advent of birth control in the 1960s. It has been argued that sex has become increasingly a prescriptive recreational activity – and that the consequence of procreation has become an afterthought if at all.

Agrarian/”developing” nations are the only ones still experiencing an increase in population – and it mostly ties in to the notion of having more hands available to work the land. An increase in one’s standard of living usually ushers in a fall in births – the Hindu population is better off financially in India than the Muslim cohort (around 10 %) and it’s the Hindu populace that’s in decline.

Why does this matter? Well, in countries that have pensions, social security, and other assorted social infrastructure arrangements, the cost is usually born by the generation NOT using those amenities, but are working and paying into the system – if there is no population to speak of that provides a means of financing these schemes, then it remains to be seen how these social contracts will be honored.

      @ BB,
Wow. Thank you for the impressive response.
All excellent points. I was not aware of all that you wrote.
Thank you for pointing it out. Makes me want to do some more research on the subject of declining birthrates.
It would seem the better the economic status, the less people breed. Why do you think that is?
Is it possible that the better people plan the more cautious they are and therefore less likely to find
that “exact right time” to breed?

      • BB

Simple answer: humans are selfish – an increase in income usually informs a higher standard of living; people comfortable in steadily higher socioeconomic brackets are less inclined to disrupt their fiscal circumstance in favor of children and/or displace the primary driver of his/her life from himself/herself to a baby (i.e. the ego/id).

        • Aurora

          @ BB,
Yes, I have noticed that an increase in income means less kids in a family, though there are the exceptions.

        • Moe

BB. Good point. This can be seen in our own country. So many lower income household will have anywhere from 3-7 kids. I once spoke to a lady who said that she wanted to have enough kids to have a baseball team. ???? ok….

Singapore is hypocritical as most/all countries are – the official policy may be that pornography is outlawed and are most overt expressions of sexuality, but the Geylang district is home to a bevy of massage parlors and as author Paul Theroux has written, there exists a series of buildings in the city-state that house prostitutes/escorts imported into the country, usually from Eastern Europe and other parts of Asia – it’s not that Singaporeans are having less sex per se, but that like all other “developed” nations, most people don’t want to incur the “burden” of having children, whether it’s a matter of $ and/or intruding on their lifestyle.

    • Aurora

      @ BB,
True, breeding little ones is in a lot of ways a lifetime commitment. While its worth it too many it can be over thought to the point of losing desire sometimes.

    • Bla

So now tolerance is hypocritical ?

How is Singapore tolerating sex workers in certain districts hypocritical ?

Id say that America is more hypocritical for not even raising an eyebrow when the Foreign National & former world Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao was persecuted ,slandered & discriminated against for being reported as saying nothing more than he would prefer not to keep company with homosexuals .

LA’s biggest shopping mall upon hearing this report publicly announced that he was banned from shopping there even though he never behaved inappropriately there or ever even mentioned anything about that establishment .

To make matters even worse it turned out Pacquiao was miss quoted & never even said what he was supposed to have said .

      Hypocritical ?

Wat about the land of the free forcing Catholic institutions to pay for abortions on “Obamacare”?

So much for freedom of conscience or watever you hypocrites call it out there .

I wont even mention how all you hypocrites brag about your nations military strength & then scurry around condemning gun ownership as soon as there is an expression of violence in your hypocritical society .

I think its obvious that the world needs to help 3′rd world mud hut America out , all chip in & buy it a big mirror so it can have a good long hard look at itself in the hope it quits ruining everything for those of us who are happy to come from defined genetic & cultural non colonial territory’s .

One size does not fit all & nobody in the developed world is as impressed by America as the self deluded Americans are .

      • Aurora

        @ Bla,
With so many people, governments and companies trying to rule the general mindset, it may be impossible not to be hypocritical.
There are a lot of double standards floating around.

Am fairly familiar firsthand w/ that corridor of SE Asia. Singapore’s “official” position is that sex workers and the like are deemed undesirable in the city-state; as noted, the reality (which the government elects to ignore by choice) does obviate whatever official rhetoric is spewed. If Singapore’s government can be ardently martial in enforcing its policy on outlawing chewing gum and graffiti, exiling/deporting (foreign) sex workers wouldn’t present itself as much more of a major challenge save for a lack of true political will.

This position of hypocrisy isn’t isolated to Singapore as stated (“as most/all countries”) and America isn’t absent from this critique – it’s interesting to note that the maxim of the U.S. as a beacon/vanguard of hope and democracy is a canard only triumphed by U.S. politicians/diplomats and never uttered by their counterparts in the rest of the world.

Machievelli’s observation that “countries have no moralities, just interests” remains as valid today as it did in Renaissance Florence – all countries (including the U.S.) are governed by this paradigm regardless of whatever falsehoods the public relations spin-doctoring avails.

I myself have watched loadsa porn but have no kids .

        Well now yer askin !

Its not something I have ever thought about or for that matter care about & as a matter of fact I think the world is over populated & on the cusp of an intellectual & Spiritual Dark Age & as such would love to see an apocalyptic nuclear & or Biological war held outside of the Western World , basically a population cull of the human animal .

I just made the comment in the hope of getting your attention & now that it worked Im all pleased with myself !

With all that said & you really would like to hear my opinions how I think an already over populated Singapore could be made even more crowded you will just have to wine & dine me to get me in the mood , invite me round to your place where we could get cozy lookin at sun sets & moon rises & then Id let ya pick my brain on the matter .

But until then its a case of …

If you were to exact an outright ban on ALL prophylactics and removed absolutely the availability of abortions, there likely would be an increase of births (wanted/unwanted). People would see the constraints, but visceral momentum would still see copulation abound w/ the w/drawal method as one of the few (unreliable) measures left to guard against pregnancy. Extremely punitive Draconian tactics admittedly.

    World fertility rates: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2127rank.html

Note that Singapore has the lowest, at 0.78 children per woman. This is why Singapore is doing nutty things like this ad campaign. People are starting to fear they are un-breeding themselves out of existence.

In my opinion, what affects fertility rates is: availability of birth control (let’s start with the obvious), the education levels of a society (the more educated, the fewer babies), especially women (increasing women’s education lowers fertility rates more than increasing men’s education), religion (atheists and secularists have the fewest babies, religious fundamentalists have the most — strange but true), and the economic structure of the society (advanced info-tech societies have the fewest babies, subsistence farming societies have the most).

If anything, I suspect porn lowers fertility rates — like birth control, it gives people a way of getting sexual gratification without (the possibility of) making babies. Although now that I know porn is illegal in Singapore and it still has the world’s lowest fertility rate, I’m inclined to think porn has no effect one way or the other — the counterexample being Japan, which is one of the world’s largest porn *producers*, and also has an extremely low fertility rate (Japan has the 19th lowest fertility rate out of the 222 countries on the list, out of 222 countries).

    • Aurora

      @ Wayne,
Hmmm… interesting. Well, I stand corrected then.
Perhaps porn wouldn’t help. It was a spur of the moment idea… a knee jerk reaction to the information if you will.
      xo- Aurora

      • Wayne

Aurora, well it was a nice knee jerk reaction :) Good to know you care about the sexual pleasure of Singaporians. I’m sure you care about the sexual pleasure of all the world’s inhabitants — why else would you be so good at what you do? :)

        • Aurora

          @ Wayne,
          Indeed I do care ;)
          xo- Aurora

  8. Wayne

Oops, I meant to say Japan’s fertility rate is 1.39, 19th out of 222 countries — rather than saying 222 twice. I can’t edit my previous comment so have to post another one.

Anyway, you can see it all on the link to the list of world fertility rates.

  9. morgan28d

my answer to all this you need to get out of missouri and actually visit the world to see your fans instead of being one of the adult stars who only feel comfortable in la . do you have a passport ?

    • Aurora

      @ morgan28d,
LOL. Have passport and willing to travel ;)
I love to see the world and meet fans- a perk of the job really.
And I am not an adult star comfortable with the everyday hum drum of LA, thats why I left.
I sought to change things up in a drastic way. Nothing is more drastic than leaving Los Angeles for
      the middle of nowhere :)

I wouldn’t let contradictory advice like that turn yer head if I were you Aurora .

Your move to a rural setting has obviously refreshed you in body & soul , I can tell you have a new lease of creative energy & as such I dont think you have looked or felt better this past 5 or so years .

LA may have been gettin you down but at least it is the home of Artistic Expression where you can mingle with kindred spirits .

Theres a reason places like Paris & London produce unattractive & or plain ugly blandness & that is because it is all they are capable of producing , you as we kno you would never have existed it it weren’t for LA & now yer move into the Wild West !

Hmm, encouraging sex w/monetary incentive to increase the population. Wow, where was this idea years ago. I could see that idea really taking off in the late 60′s/early 70′s. But getting only $18000 after having a 5th child. I have a feeling that would only help support 1 or 2 kids these days?

Hmmmmmmmmmm, its fun hearing u guys giving all sorts of comments abt singapore. Being a singaporean myself, u guys really impress me with all u know..esp black n bb. True true, singapore’s kinda messed up on the perceptions n law pertaining to sex. At 16 u can join the military, take a gun n kill ppl but u r banned from watching even a movie lyk Ted. A blowjob can land u 2 years in prison here if u r ever caught. Anal sex will get u five. N yes, my fellow country leaders here r paying us to procreate the next generation. But fuck up as it might b wif all the restrictions on sex n stuff, it only inspired my fellow males here to find ways n means to trespass into the forbidden zone. Wif all the sex scandals going on recently here, its juz a matter of time b4 they will legitimize porn here to a certain degree, juz lyk the casinos. N honest to god, its not as bad as it seems. Afterall, I’m a singaporean but still I get to see, hear n now perhaps communicate wif lovely aurora. For the record, my little island state has the 3 highway internet porn traffic in the world after US n UK. Guess singaporean males r a bunch of horny bastards afterall. Haha.
