It finally happened. The day has come, the day I never thought I’d see. I replaced Bungee.
I didn’t mean to. I swear I only went to the shelter to browse. I didn’t expect to go home with a puppy.
It was an accident.
It was thirty minutes until closing and we happened to be in the area, so we figured a quick look at the animal shelter wouldn’t hurt. Upon arrival we were notified that several puppies were available, 8wks old and the perfect mix- half lab/half German shepherd.
I expected the pups to look like their German shepherd counterpart, and must admit was slightly disappointed with the more lab like appearance. Again I had the notion of a Bungee substitute in my mind; needless to say I really was fixated on a certain appearance.
After staring at the litter of sleeping puppies for what felt like hours, I reconciled myself to go home puppy-less. With only five minutes until closing, now back at the front desk, I ask the woman running the shelter if I can have one last peek at the little cream colored pup. Instead of inviting me back to the kennels as I expected, she urges me to stay and brings the pup to me.
I think I was set up. She must have known that the second I held the pup I was going to want to take it home. She was right.
She placed the sleepy pup in my arms, he looked up at me with those huge puppy dog eyes and that was it- I was toast.
I could no longer resist the temptation. Moment’s later paperwork was signed and I left the shelter a new dog owner. Quite unprepared I had zero doggie supplies. A quick trip to a pet store fixed that.
It felt good to shop for a new puppy.
First order of business once we arrived home: BATH.
Baby puppy took it all rather well. Think he really enjoyed the towel drying process.
As well as meeting the ever curious cat.
I am finally over Bungee and ready to fall in love with my new as of yet unnamed little guy. Not sure what to name him. I am hoping he’ll let me know what he’d like to be called soon though. Sure would like to teach him to respond to something other than “cute puppy.”

Congratulations on the new puppy! He is so very adorable!
@ Dr.A/Vsian,
Thank you! He is a lot of work but worth it.

Very cute guy! We’ve recently (well, a few months ago) adopted a Belgium shepherd mix puppy and she is so smart and affectionate – here’s hoping yours is, too (assuming, of course, that’s what you want).
Congratulations on your new addition!
@ Doug,
Thanks. Pup is incredibly smart, but very young and requires a lot.

How about ” Pookie ” for a name as the puppy kind of reminds me of Garfield’s teddy.
@ KamokaziUK,
Pookie is cute. However I went with the name “Einstein.”
xo- Aurora
Might I suggest Ahav, which is Hebrew for love. It ties in to your roots, right?
@ captivated,
Yes, that would tie into my roots, but I finally named the little guy Einstein.

Congrats.
My dog passed away past year. He was a Springer Spaniel named Bailey. We had to put him down actually. It brings tears to my eyes to even write that. Some things take a long time to get over.
On other news, my website is up. Please take a look and comment. I am a newbie blogging. Gives me something to do at night.
@ Artfulcynic aka Cynicmytic,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your pup. Its always hard to lose family like that.

@ morgan28d,
The pup is perfect so far

I have a 14 year old poodle and a 1 year old pitubll. Two years ago my poodle had to get some teeth removed and was no longer able to chew her hard dog food so I decided to try a raw dog food. She has began to act more alive and as for my pitubll, she has been on it since she was a couple weeks old and loves it! The raw dog food brand I tried was K9HP (www.k9hp.com). K9HP is a specially formulated diet which aims to promote the overall health and well-being of your dog. What caught my eye was the all natural and healthy ingredients as well as the fact that it is a family owned company who wants nothing but the best for you and your dog.
Glad about your new dog. Our dog had a stroke a few years back and he passed away. His name was Thumper. He was a shelty. He was named that because as a pup he had a metal rod in his leg and when he walked he made a thumping noise. He was the smartest and most caring dog I have ever known. I miss him a lot!
@ mel7425,
Thumper is such a sweet name. Sounds like he was a great one too!
xo- Aurora
How sweet! He will never betray you!
@ Daniele,
Agreed. I know he never will

its so kind of you to adopt a dog instead of buying
@ mcbaba,
But of course. All of my animals have been rescues/adoptions.
Its my preference
xo- Aurora
Aww he’s adorable and it looks like princess kitty kat (and you) have a new friend to play with and keep each other company with. Ive known you for many years and I know you miss Bungee so hopefully Einstein can create new lifelong memories for you
@ Geoff,
Yes I love my new little pup infinitley.
xo- Aurora
I know you do, how are/is the other furry family members getting along w/Einstein.
Awwww What a sweet little guy! He’s lucky to have you as his new mommy! Hopefully he lives up to his name. Just being smart that is. Don’t want you to have an atomic dog.
u have an amazing puppy, bitch
@ cris,
Yes I do. Is that supposed to be a tongue in cheek “bitch” comment? Insult or compliment?
Its really hard to tell in text. Though I will take a wild guess and assume you mean that as a compliment.
After all in 2012 who uses the word “bitch” as an insult? It would fall a little flat.
xo- Aurora
Yes it will definitely be alot of work- to train a new owner and get her on a schedule- whew:)
@ sauni,
Yes, but all the work will be worth it in a few months time

I once dated a girl that had a dog similar in appearance to yours. Her dog had the tendency -much the way a cat has- to walk between and around the legs of anyone who may be in my girlfriend’s house. Needless to say, the dog would often become the victim of an unintentional bump or step on a paw, or sometimes, on the tail. Each time one such accident occurred, the dog would raise its head, bark and howl. And each time, the offending person would scream, “OOPS!” Soon after each such incident, everyone familiar with the dog stopped screaming, “OOPS!” and began bending over and shouting at the dog, “OOPS!” (expecting the dog to learn the folly of meandering between the legs of people.) Unfortunately, the dog’s consistent reaction was to scowl and continue howling at the offending person shouting “OOPS” as if it were saying, “Hey! Watch Where Ya Going!” Finally, the dog taught the people in the house his name. Everyone knew the dog’s name was “OOPS!” –I’m sure the reason for naming your dog Einstein is because, in some way, he taught you his name.
@ Victor,
I tend to feel animals name themselves or grow into their names, I have found both to be true.
Neat story btw

Happy Puppy Mommy’s day to you Aurora! =) Have fun potty training!
@ Moe,
Aw, thanks Moe!
xo- Aurora
Congratulations…what a good looking puppy. Enjoy
So are you training the pup or is it training you? You come running every time it makes a noise don’t you?
@ JEFF,
LOL. It is probably a little bit of both!
xo- Aurora
That dog is adorable, the kind you cant forget or walk away from. Trouble with shelters is you always bond with atleast one.
On another note, you could have named him “No” dogs tend to hear that a lot(so often they think its their name anyway)
@ xcalliber,
LOL. Hoping my dog doesn’t have to hear “No” so often that he gets used to it. Hoping he learns “no” quickly!
